2023 Nuc Pricing
We have 5-frame nucs available for purchase! All nucs will include a new vetted, mated queen and 2-3 frames of brood. All nucs will be thoroughly inspected for contents, quality of brood pattern, temperament and productivity prior to customer pickup to best ensure colony success.
Nucs vs. Package Bees
Nucs vs. Package Bees… Nucs, while often more costly, are much more successful, less overall work and produce a faster build-up than package bees. Package bees often do not stay in the box they are introduced to.
When purchasing nucs, the bees are given a good start by providing them with resources and already familiar surroundings. When they already have brood and food frames available, they don’t have the inclination to seek out “better” housing in that dead tree on the other side of the yard.
About SoBeeCo Nucs
Southern Bee Company nucs aren’t put together when our customers request them, with a new, unfamiliar queen added in; our nucs are working hives that have been established in our queen operation. Each nuc will have a young but vetted, laying queen; most will even have the original established date and the hatch date of the current queen, along with the lineage description.
The Nuc Pool
How do we have all these established nucs? Many come straight from our collection of mating nucs. We are also growing our nuc population at all times; for example, if we harvest a queen from a mating nuc that has extra brood in it, we take those extra brood frames along with the bees and create new nucs. We also often take excess brood from our production hives to create new nucs as opposed to traditionally splitting our production hives, essentially doing mini splits.
